Attorney Judith M. Flynn

Attorney Judy FlynnJudy received her undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts at Boston, summa cum laude, where she was also a recipient of the T. Scott Miyakawa Memorial Prize in Sociology. She received her J.D. degree from Suffolk University Law School, cum laude, and was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award in Administrative Law.

After graduating from Suffolk, Judy Flynn worked as a contract attorney at a small south shore elder law firm where she focused on guardianships and MassHealth applications.  In 2002, she joined the Law Office of William Brisk in Newton as an Associate Attorney, where her practice focused on all aspects of elder law and related litigation. Judy launched her own firm in Hingham in 2004, and now has her primary office in Rockland and a satellite office in Mansfield.  Judy works with elders and their families in areas of elder law, estate planning, and special needs planning.  (See Areas of Expertise for more detailed information on practice areas.)   In addition, a portion of her practice is devoted to litigation of issues affecting elders, such as financial abuse by family members or friends, contested guardianships, appeal of wrongful termination of Medicare coverage, and trust and Will disputes.

Judy is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and its Massachusetts Chapter (MassNAELA), and is presently serving as Vice President of MassNAELA for 2012.  She is an active member of the MassNAELA Public Policy Committee, working to advocate for the rights of seniors and those with special needs in the Commonwealth.  Judy served two terms as President of the Massachusetts Guardianship Association (MGA), in 2010 and 2011, and is currently the Immediate Past President. 

Judy was recently named a "Top Woman of Law" by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, which they award to "women who have made inspiring contributions in fields including pro bono, social justice, advocacy and business." She was named a Five Star Wealth Manager in Boston Magazine for 2010 and 2012.  She also received the National Guardianship Association's Outstanding Affiliate Member Award in 2010. Judy is a member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the American Inn of Family and Probate Courts.

Judy and her husband, Bill, both grew up in South Boston.  They now live in Hingham and have three children:  Mackenzie (24), Christine (21), and Liam (14).  Bill and Judy were the first married couple inducted to the South Boston Sports Hall of Fame, Bill for hockey and Judy for running/track and field.
