2010 Alzheimer’s Association
Run for the
Memory
Run for the Memory Blog
Dear Friend:
As you know, I have formed a team for the Memory Walk each
of the past four years, raising $20,000 - $25,000 for the
Alzheimer’s Association. This year I wanted to make a more
significant, more personal commitment by joining the
Alzheimer’s Association Run for the Memory Team for the 2010
Boston Marathon.
I am not a marathoner and completing the 26.2 mile course
will not be an easy task. I have made a commitment to follow
the Team training regimen, however, no matter what Mother
Nature or life throws my way. More significantly, I have
made a commitment to raise a minimum of $3,000 for the
Alzheimer’s Association, with my actual goal being much
higher.
As an elder law attorney, I witness the struggle that
families encounter when a loved one is suffering from
Alzheimer’s Disease. In fact, my own family has been
affected by this Disease with the loss of several family
members. We have seen first-hand what extraordinary support
the Alzheimer’s Association offers to the individuals
affected by the Disease and the loved ones who care for
them.
I realize that many families have been affected by this
economy, so if you are unable to support my Run for the
Memory financially, I understand! You can still support this
worthy cause by passing this information on to a few people.
In fact, feel free to copy it and pass it on to all of your
friends, neighbors, colleagues, and relatives! I hope you
will support my Run for the Memory in one (or more) of the
following ways:
1. Make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association by mailing
your tax deductible donation (payable to the “Alzheimer’s
Association – MA/NH Chapter”) to my office along with a
completed
Donor Form. You may also make your donation online
at
http://alz.kintera.org/boston2010 (click on “Sponsor
Participant” and enter Judith Flynn; this will bring you to
my Run for the Memory donation page). Please be sure to note
if your donation is in honor of or in memory of a loved one.
2. Spread the Word Please spread the word and ask others to
support this effort. If each of you asks three others to
support this effort, the results will be exponential!
3. Seek Matching Funds If your employer offers matching
funds for charitable contributions, please provide them with
the information they need to make a matching donation.
Proceeds from the Run for the Memory will go directly to
fund local programs and services designed to improve the
lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. While the
Boston Marathon is not until April 19th, I assure you
sixteen weeks is not much time – for either the training or
the fundraising! I have just reached my first week at the
minimum of 36 miles per week. With the ultimate goal being
48-60 miles per week, I don’t have a day to spare. I’d like
to raise the minimum commitment amount of $3,000 as soon as
possible so that I can focus primarily on training. I hope
you will support me in this effort.
Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions
about the Run for the Memory or the Alzheimer’s Association.
On behalf of the millions of Americans who are affected by
Alzheimer’s Disease, I thank you for your consideration.
Very truly yours,
Judith M. Flynn
